The effect of adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy in patients with central retinal artery occlusion

Objectives:

  1. To provide data on the anatomy and physiology of the adipose tissue of humans and pigs in order to collect information for use in diving modeling.
  2. To evaluate the use of pig adipose tissue as a model for humans in diving studies and decompression sickness risk assessment.
  3. To establish incidence of DCS in recreational diving.
  4. Utilize dive computer technology to investigate the time/depth characteristics of actual profiles across a large section of recreational dives.
  5. Demonstrate that the USN model for DCS risk can be used as a basis to derive a model applicable to recreational diving.
  6. To understand pathophysiology and devastating consequences of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).
  7. To understand the proposed mechanism and need of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) for central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).

Goal

For over 45 years the UHMS has been the primary source of information for hyperbaric medicine and physiology worldwide. This evidence based, peer-reviewed scientific journal-based CME has as its goal to address identified professional practice gaps and provide a quality CME opportunity which will improve scientific knowledge and skills for undersea, hyperbaric and wound care physicians, nurses and technicians, and other clinicians and personnel whose practice includes undersea, hyperbaric medicine and wound care.
