UHMS Chapter Town Hall Meeting hosted by the Midwest Chapter: Safety

The Midwest Chapter was re-formed to bring together thoughts and issues throughout the multi-state area regarding clinical application to hyperbaric medicine practice. To provide up to date educational offerings, as well as new information related to hyperbaric medicine, and develop a closer relationship with Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Meeting Objectives:

1. Assessment of attendant’s fitness to dive/disqualifying medical conditions.
2. Review Decompression sickness in inside attendants.
3. Discuss case presentations.
4. Review treatment of DCS.
5. Discuss clearance to return to full work duties following an event of DCS.
6. Understand prevention of DCS and risk mitigation for the inside attendant.
7. Discuss safety related to hyperbaric medicine and language barriers.
8. Review clinical considerations when treating patients with language barriers in hyperbaric medicine to reduce safety risk.
9. Explain what’s all involved in monthly, quarterly, and annually maintenance when it comes to safe operation of a multiplace chamber.
10. Describe a range of reported physical injuries in those who both operate and work within the hyperbaric delivery system.
11. Summarize operational factors and safety shortcomings that contributed to hyperbaric staff member morbidity & mortality.
12. Suggest operational & safety guidelines that serve to mitigate hyperbaric staff member accidents & injuries.

• NBDHMT Accreditation Statement: For CHT recertification purposes, the NBDHMT requires a minimum of nine of the minimum 12 required Category A credits relate directly to any combination of hyperbaric operations, related technical aspects and chamber safety.
